A global “loose brush” filter creates texture, but it does not create a convincing light event.

Civitai added a timely ecosystem signal. A generic Impressionism resource published Krea 2 and Anima versions on September 3. At 02:08 PDT on September 6, the parent record showed 12,512 cumulative downloads and 1,018 thumbs-up, and it ranked 26th in Most Downloaded / Week. Those totals span the record's lifetime, not three days, and we did not reuse the creator's images or prompt.
Museum sources help separate the movement from an effect preset. The Metropolitan Museum of Art describes short broken brushstrokes, pure unblended color, colored shadows and highlights, and careful compositions that can appear spontaneous. The National Gallery of Art asks viewers to connect brush direction, color, reflection, movement, and vantage point. Together they point to a more useful prompt order: light structure first, mark behavior second.
Our cover holds one invented riverside tram stop across misty dawn, late morning, dappled noon, warm rain, coral sunset, and violet evening. No museum composition or named artist was used. The changing light is the subject; the shelter, river rail, umbrella cart, and two anonymous adults keep the comparison anchored.

Read the six-cell experiment
The first cell is smoothly rendered and evenly sharp. It locates the shelter, rails, river, trees, and distant town, but the surface says more about digital realism than a painted observation.
The second applies broad impasto-like marks nearly everywhere. Brush visibility increases while the hierarchy stays flat. Tree, sky, shelter, pavement, and river all receive comparable emphasis, so texture becomes a global filter.
The third mixes the warm and cool families until the whole scene turns brown. Sun and shadow no longer feel related to one light event. More historical-looking pigment texture cannot restore a lost temperature structure.
The fourth keeps warm light and cool shadow in neighboring strokes. The river and pavement begin to flicker, but the shelter is too soft to lead the eye. The fifth commits to violet-blue shadows and warm cream light, then gives almost every surface the same small mark. It demonstrates color separation but loses scale.
The final cell works more economically. Large warm pavement and cool shadow masses read first. The shelter keeps the clearest edge. Leaves and reflections break into smaller marks where the light changes rapidly, while the distant town softens.
These images are OpenAI-generated editorial simulations, not physical oil studies. Shelter, bridge, crowd, and foliage details drift slightly between cells, so judge the large light and edge relationships rather than pixel continuity. The plate cannot demonstrate pigment load, drying, brush pressure, ground preparation, or optical mixing on a real canvas. The five decisions to make before texture
1. Name one light event
Choose misty dawn, broken noon light, rain lit from behind, or the last warm light after a storm. “Beautiful lighting” does not tell the image which planes warm, which cool, or where edges disappear.
2. Group the largest values
Reduce the scene to light, middle, and dark masses. The focal shelter needs to remain visible at thumbnail size before individual leaves, stones, or reflections exist.
3. Use temperature inside value
Do not make every shadow neutral gray. A blue-violet shadow can remain the same value family as a warm shadow while changing atmosphere. Keep enough value separation for form to survive grayscale.
4. Assign marks by material and distance
Use horizontal interruptions for water, broken angular strokes for leaf flicker, broader quieter shapes for distant architecture, and firmer verticals at the focal structure. One brush mark everywhere is as generic as one texture everywhere.
5. Lose edges on purpose
Choose where subject meets atmosphere. A distant bank may dissolve into reflected sky; the focal shelter post should not. Open edges feel observed only when some other edges remain decisive.
A reproducible prompt workflow
Write the neutral scene first:
Invented riverside tram shelter, late-afternoon three-quarter view. River behind the shelter, rails crossing the foreground, two tiny anonymous adults. Fixed camera, no signage, no logos, no readable text.
Then add the light map:
One low warm sun from camera right. Cream-gold light on pavement and shelter roof. Blue-violet shadows under trees and rails. Warm reflections interrupted by cool river bands.
Only after the light reads, add mark behavior:
Short broken adjacent strokes where leaves and water catch light. Broader quiet strokes in the distant town. Clear shelter posts and softened far-bank edges. Preserve large value groups; no uniform impasto texture.

Choose the version whose light event remains obvious when the image is blurred and whose focal structure survives grayscale. If the effect disappears as soon as brush texture is hidden, the painting has surface activity but no light architecture.
